CAMP MIX Story

Like most small business ventures, ours started by accident. Here's how...

Our family has been avid campers for over forty years. Prior to a trip, many years ago, Tom, wanting to conserve space in the kitchen supply box, mixed the contents of various seasoning bottles (in a measured way) in one bottle. After we set up the camp kitchen, he simply told everyone that if they wanted any kind of seasoning that they could find it all in that one bottle.

Well, by the end of the weekend...people were literally trying to steal the bottle to take it home. And, as happens when our crew gets together, arguments ensued as to what we had to name this new concoction. CAMP MIX ended up being the clear winner.

Over the years, the "word of mouth" thing created a demand that not only created a mini personal gift giving hobby for Tom, it verified and solidified that he had a real product.

Pushes became shoves and Tom decided to give it a go and make his homemade "stuff" a marketable product. So was born...CAMP MIX!

Initially, Tom set out to only wholesale his products to major outdoor supply retailers. L.L. Bean got hooked right away and has been our largest customer in the retail market. (no words can ever thank L.L. Bean for their acceptance and support). But, as is very usual with many other major retailers and small suppliers, there is a huge reluctance to get involved with the little guy. (And Tom's not that little either!)

So we ended up "shifting gears" and along with our constantly growing retail partnerships, we have been dealing directly with individual consumers by answering the requests generated by word of mouth. We have almost been forced to get into the web e-commerce business.

We kind of like doing business this way best of all. You get access to our products from anywhere at anytime and we feel a little closer to you. It's a "win-win" situation that we think is a "more funner" way of doing business.

What constantly surprises us most of all is how people find our products in the first place and what happens after they get to try our blends. The word "addicted" is the word we hear all the time. We get calls, cards, and letters from all around the country from people who are almost pleading for more "stuff". If you are one of those wonderful people, thank you...for falling in love with what we love to do. If you're a "first timer"...woo-hoo!...welcome to the club!

So, please feel free to "talk us up" and pass our information around. We sure will appreciate your nice words and recommendations to your friends...and we'll keep makin' more!

Thank you and...enjoy!
